Beach Bag

Whether you're visiting the beach close to home this year or travelling further afield, here's a gorgeous, handy beach bag that'll see you through all your seaside adventures!

This bag not only looks great, but it has everything you might want in a beach bag: it’s big enough to carry your beachy necessities, with mesh pockets for your sandy flip flops, a zip pocket for valuables and inside patch pockets to keep smaller items where you can find them.

The pattern on the front is based on the Dresden plate quilting pattern and reminds me of rays of the sun, but you could choose a different design to go here – a wonky beach hut scene would be fun – or you can even keep the front plain. Don’t stress too much about the quilting here: the red triangles in the patchwork rays will turn out to be varying sizes, which is fine, and don’t worry too much about seam allowances or matching points in this section. It’s actually a great beginner project for a budding patchworker! And how about using the design on the front of a cushion cover?

I’ve provided patterns for the Dresden plate design and the shaped side panels of the bag. Measurements are given for the remaining pieces.

Finished size: 13 x 13 x 7in (33 x 33 x 18cm)

Note: Use a ½in (1.25cm) seam allowance unless otherwise stated.
