Dresden Plate Block of the Month #3 | Quilt Sew-Along (2020)
Easy |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Debbie Shore's Dresden Plate quilt block tutorial is a great way of incorporating flower shapes.
The Dresden Plate name is believed to be inspired by the Art Nouveau movement, particularly in Germany, during the 1920s and 1930s. The 'scrap quilt' idea is a deliberate use of contrasting fabrics to create an effect, which allows quilters to use up and combine lots of leftover pieces from other quilting projects.
The Dresden Plate quilt block is relatively simple to make, as you are effectively creating a large appliqué design. As you can see on my final quilt, once you assemble the blocks for your own quilt at the very end, you can echo quilt around the 'petals' of your flower to add more texture and detail!
Block size: 10in (25.5cm) square finished; 10½in (26.75cm) unfinished.
Note: Use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance throughout unless otherwise stated.
