Cross and Crown Block of the Month #12 | Quilt-Along (2023)
Challenging |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Debbie Shore's bold quilt block is a traditional five-patch design with four sashing strips.
Like so many traditional quilting blocks, the Cross and Crown has many variations, using anything from two colours upwards and sometimes with further split blocks. This version uses four colours, which show off the different elements of the block and emphasize the solid geometry of the centre. The four corner blocks are made using Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) and the stitch-and-flip process used for block 10, ensuring that the eight small triangles are positioned perfectly.
Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) is a quilting technique that allows for precise and intricate designs by sewing fabric onto a printed paper template. This method is especially useful for creating sharp points, detailed patterns, and complex shapes that would be difficult to achieve with traditional piecing.
Untrimmed block size: 12½in (31.75cm) square
