Five Patch Chain Block of the Month #2 | Quilt (2023)
Easy |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Debbie Shore's beginner quilt block project celebrates the classic four-patch design.
This easy beginner quilt block is made entirely with machine piecing. As with the previous quilt blocks, you could piece by hand if you wish. Keep an eye on the direction you rotate your four-patch units, to ensure you create the impression of the blue squares radiating away from the centre.
What is machine piecing? Machine piecing is a quilting technique where fabric pieces are sewn together using a sewing machine rather than by hand. It allows for faster, more precise stitching and is commonly used in quilt-making to assemble blocks, patterns, or entire quilt tops efficiently. This method is especially useful for repetitive patterns like this five patch design as it ensures consistency in seam allowances.
Untrimmed block size: 12½in (31.75cm) square
