Sand Dunes Block of the Month #5 | Quilt Sew-Along (2024)
Moderate |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
This block uses a traditional Clam Shell quilt block and hand stitching to create the effect of sand.
This English Paper Pieced (EPP) block uses the traditional clamshell template, which creates the effect of movement in the sand. It is hand sewn together in a slightly different way to the usual EPP technique – rather than the shapes being whipstitched together from the back of the work, in this case they are appliquéd together on the top side using slip stitch. For extra guidance with slip stitch, see ‘hand sewing for beginners.’ When completed, the block is machine appliquéd into position.
Unfinished block size: 18½ x 4½in (47 x 11.5cm)
