Block of the Month 2025: Block 1 – Shadow Box
Easy |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Get your 2025 quilt off to a flying start with this simple yet strikingly modern block.
Shadow Box is a popular block which, when sewn together, looks three-dimensional. It’s fairly easy to create using strips and squares of fabric, but the colour placement is key. You can make an amazing wall hanging by repeating this block several times. If you want to experiment with this block on other items, you can use more than three fabrics as long as you use dark-toned fabrics in place of Fab F, medium-toned fabrics in place of Fab D and the lightest tones for the WW pieces.
Note: stitch with an accurate ¼in (5mm) seam allowance.
Unfinished block size: 12½in (31.75cm) square.
