Block of the Month 2025: Block 3 – Attic Windows | Sew-Along

This easy method for making Attic Windows will be a pleasant change after last month’s more complex double blocks. Follow along to sew this quilt block pattern!

A traditional Attic Windows block is made from a square plus two strips, each with one mitred end, and the mitres match to one corner of the square, creating a Y-seam where three seams meet. It can be difficult to sew Y-seams in a way that creates a perfect join. But unlike the traditional version of the Attic Windows quilt block, the simple modern method I’m going to show you here does not involve the Y-seam to create the window frame. Hopefully, you should find this version to be an easy sewing project to make! I’ve also included a further frame in Fab F to enhance the three-dimensional effect.

Note: stitch with an accurate ¼in (5mm) seam allowance.

Unfinished block size: 12½in (31.75cm) square.
