Block of the Month 2025: Block 6 – EPP | Template to download

This eye-catching quilt block is an opportunity to develop your hand-stitching skills with both some English Paper Piecing (EPP) and appliqué.

If you’re new to English Paper Piecing, this fairly simple design is a good place to start. You will be using English Paper Piecing to join three identical trapezoid shapes around a WW triangle to create six units. These need to be joined into a ring and then appliquéd onto your background square to form a block with a 3-D look. If you’ve got scraps of fabric leftover from previous blocks, here’s an opportunity to use them up.

By making this block, you’ll:

  1. Use fabric scraps to make something beautiful.
  2. Learn how to do EPP or improve your existing skills.
  3. Gain confidence in doing appliqué.

Note: stitch with an accurate ¼in (5mm) seam allowance. After you have printed your templates, do check the size of the 1in (2.5cm) square so you can be sure that your templates have printed at the correct size before you cut your pieces.

Unfinished block size: 12½in (31.75cm) square.
