Block of the Month: Block 5 – Card Trick
Easy |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Use this clever alternative method of making this month’s modern-looking quilt block, which is usually quite tricky to stitch – it’s much easier than you think!
Once again, this block is constructed with a non-traditional method, this time using squares and rectangles placed on the diagonal to form the famous Card Trick block in the centre of a pieced WW background. The background triangles are on the bias, so a spray of starch before you stitch would help to avoid stretching these edges.
By the end of this project, you’ll have:
- Learned an easy method for making the Card Trick unit.
- Made a four-patch checkerboard unit, which is a staple quilting block.
- Worked with pieces cut on the bias.
Don’t forget to check out the blocks that other members have made (see right) and, if you have any questions about making this block, remember to refer to the forum. You can also chat to other members via the Half Yard Sewing Club Facebook page!
Note: sew with an accurate ¼in (5mm) seam allowance.
Unfinished block size: 12½in (31.75cm) square.
