Debbie Shore's statement pillow is perfect for adding a pop of colour to your living space.
This simple cushion cover is striking in patriotic red, white and blue shades, but of course it can be made in any colours you like! Try black and white, pretty pastels or the colours of your favourite sports team. If you wish, you could swap the heart shape for a star, which would make this pillow perfect for Fourth of July decor! Just make sure the star is no larger than 8in (20cm) high and 8in (20cm) wide.
The cushion cover is lined, so no raw edges are seen on the inside, which gives a professional finish if you’re selling or gifting the cushion. This is a useful technique to use on other cushion projects where you want a neat finish to the seams.

You will need:
Equipment
- Rotary cutter and cutting mat, or fabric scissors
- Heart template
- Erasable fabric marker
- Sewing machine
- Hand-sewing needle
Materials
Gather:
- 44 x 30in ( 112 x 76cm) plain fabric – I used blue
- Three fabrics for the stripes, each measuring 22 x 9in (56 x 23cm) – I used red, white and blue
- Thread
- 15in (38cm) cushion/pillow pad
Cut:
- One 9in (23cm) square of plain fabric
- One 13in (33cm) square of plain fabric
- Two 15½ x 18in (39.5 x 46) rectangles of plain fabric
- One 15½in (39.5cm) square of plain fabric
- Five 10 x 1½ in (25 x 4cm) strips each of red, white and blue fabric
- Two 22 x 1½ in (56 x 4cm) strips each of red, white and blue fabric
