Children's Padded Play Mat

Keep your little ones occupied this month with a patchwork activity play mat!

There are lots of activities on this play mat to keep children busy, and you could easily add more! If your little one is very small, then replace the mini washing-line pegs with hook-and-loop tape or snap fasteners. I’ve included templates for the alphabet so you can personalize your mat; of course, the appliqué shapes can be used on other projects too! Feel free to change the fabrics and colourway to suit your child’s tastes; I’ve deliberately used felt as it doesn’t fray and relatively robust.

I’ve free-motion embroidered the appliqué pieces to my mat, you could use a straight stitch on your machine or hand sew if you prefer.

Finished size: 24in (61cm) square

Note: Use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance throughout, unless otherwise stated.

Alphabet is Kohne Makina, courtesy of Krafti Lab.
