Got a selection of small fabrics and an urge to make a quick project? These fabric flowers are simple, speedy makes that will turn any item or accessory into something stunning!
Whether you attach them to a headband to make a flower crown, to a hoop to make a wreath, or use them to decorate a book cover or jewellery box, these shabby-chic flowers will brighten up your day! Adding ribbons, lace and bead strings alongside them create an interesting combination of textures.

You will need:
Equipment
- Hand-sewing needle
- Strong wet fabric glue
- Heat-resistant tweezers
- Candle
- Old ceramic plate, for collecting the ‘rose petals’
- Coin or circular template, 1in (2.5cm) in diameter
- Optional (for the wreath): hot-glue gun and hot glue
Materials
- Scraps of fabric for the gathered, spiked and looped flowers – I’ve used cotton canvas in different colours as it frays slightly, adding to the rustic look! However, if you’d like flowers with a cleaner edge, you could use felt
- Scraps of 100 per cent polyester fabric, for the rose petals
- Coordinating or matching strong sewing thread
- Assortment of coordinating ribbons, lace and bead strings, for embellishing
- Optional (for the wreath):
- Long scrap of fabric, for covering the embroidery hoop
- Embroidery hoop, for the wreath frame – I used a 9½in (24cm) diameter hoop
- 30in (76.25cm) length of string or twine, for hanging
- Optional (for the flower crown):
- Silk leaves from an old flower stem – if you have scraps of green fabric or felt, you could cut leaf shapes from these instead
- Length of ribbon, for the headband – the length depends on your or your chosen person’s head size, plus 4in (10cm) extra for tying the ends into a bow
