Suitable for beginners, download and sew Debbie Shore's fabric rose table centrepiece.
Turn up the romance of a meal for two with a candlelit dinner and this charming table centrepiece. These fabric roses create a stunning centrepiece, or the roses can be used to decorate a host of other items, such as a wreath, baskets, jugs and vases or even picture frames. I’ve dressed my roses around a fake candle. This can be left out if you like, but I would avoid using fabric around a real candle. For an all-year-round display, replace the candle with a potted plant.
I’ve used a linen-mix fabric in two natural colours for a lovely vintage look, but by using red or pastels with green for the leaves you can create a very different style, so choose your colours according to your preference or decor.
To co-ordinate with my neutral fabrics, I’ve used cream lace, cream and taupe ribbon, cream rickrack braid and some natural string to add a little more interest. This is a good time to sort through your ribbon box and find small pieces that match your colour selection – you could even add buttons and beads! The fabric amounts listed assume that you’ll be making the same number of roses, rosebuds and leaves as I did. Obviously, if you make a different amount, your material requirements will change accordingly.
Note: use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance
Finished size: approx. 20 x 11in (51 x 28cm)
