Jasper Giraffe Toy | Fleece Plushie Christmas Sewing Pattern
Moderate |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
I’ve made this adorable character in time for Christmas, but toys are welcome at any time of year!
Made from cuddly fleece, I’m sure this cute giraffe will become a child’s favourite character! Fleece is such a forgiving fabric to work with: it has stretch and won’t fray, plus you won’t need a special needle or thread. I’ve used cream and caramel-coloured fleece, but you could make your giraffe as colourful as you like – as you can see from the version I made in the video, rainbow colours work well too!
Safety eyes are a good option but if you prefer, you could embroider the eyes or use small circles of black felt. I’ve added a Santa hat to dress my giraffe up for the festive season. It makes him look extra cute and cuddly.
If you’d like to make a companion for Jasper you can make two versions as I did (see the finished rainbow giraffe below), or check out, Rosie Reindeer, who’s also ready for the Christmas season, as well as Cookie the Polar Bear, who’s bigger than our other friends but still keen to be one of the gang.
Thank you Diane Harrison for helping us name Jasper!
Finished size: 8 x 18 x 5in (20.25 x 46 x 13cm)

You will need:
Equipment
- Sewing machine with a standard foot
- Fabric glue stick
- Heat-erasable fabric marker pen
- Optional: pink blusher to add a rosy glow to the cheeks
- Optional: strong wet fabric glue to secure the horns and ears more firmly: I used Gutermann HT2 glue
Materials
- 18 x 25in (46 x 63.5cm) of cream-coloured fleece: I placed my pattern horizontally to make it more cost-effective, but if your fabric has a distinct nap, you may need extra fabric so you can lay the pieces vertically
- 10 x 5in (25.5 x 12.75cm) of caramel coloured fleece or scraps of coloured felt
- 7in (18cm) square of red fleece for the hat
- 11 x 1½in (28 x 4cm) strip of white fleece for the hat
- Three strands of yarn each measuring 7in (18cm) for the tail
- Two ½in (5mm) toy safety eyes
- Toy filler
- Small white pompom for the hat
