You can learn to sew with faux leather while making Debbie Shore's messenger bag sewing pattern.
I’ve been asked so many times to design a ‘man’ bag, so here you go! I’ve kept this men's messenger bag project simple and stylish, using a combination of checked wool fabric and faux leather. Of course, you can use any fabric you like and this messenger bag doesn’t have to be just for men! I’ve also glued the top part of the fastening to the faux leather; this is much simpler than sewing it on, and creates a much stronger bond.
Note: Use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance throughout, unless otherwise stated.
Finished size: 11½ x 12½ x 2in (29.25 x 31.75 x 5cm)
My checked fabric is from Dunelm, my faux leather is from my website, and the strong wet glue I use is Gutermann HT2.

You will need:
Equipment
- Sewing machine with appropriate needle for your fabric weight
- Strong wet fabric glue
- Repositionable spray fabric adhesive
- Fabric glue stick
- Fabric clips (optional)
Materials
- 30 x 16in (76.25 x 40.75cm) piece of outer fabric: mine is checked
- 33 x 14in (84 x 35.75cm) piece of faux leather
- 30 x 23in (76.25 x 58.5cm) piece of lining fabric: I have used home decor cotton
- 30 x 23in (76.25 x 58.5cm) fusible fleece
- Two 1in (2.5cm) rectangular rings
- 1in (2.5cm) rectangular slider
- Magnetic buckle fastener
