Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Make this free, DIY, adorable mouse egg cozy with felt and hand-sewn elements – by sewing expert Helen Rhiannon. This project comes with a pattern to download.
This guest designer project comes in the charming form of a mouse egg cozy made by Helen Rhiannon!
Helen is a successful bridal wear designer, bestselling author, and sewing expert. Her love of sewing started at an early age in school and then took her to London to complete a degree in Fashion Design. Returning home to Wales, Helen set up her business and created bespoke garments ranging from prom dresses, pageant dresses and occasion wear, before specialising in her main love of bridal wear.
I'm delighted that's she contributed this project that's full of personality to the Half Yard Sewing Club – we hope it injects some joy into your home and at breakfast time!
Helen says...
'This mouse egg cozy is easily one of my favourite things to make! The fabrics you choose and the hand sewing make an adorable little mouse to keep your eggs warm when enjoying boiled eggs and toast soldiers. You could make a whole mischief or nest of mice for your home, or make these sweet little cozies as gifts! It is so simple, yet super-cute. You could easily adapt the pattern to make another animal of your choosing too: perhaps a cat, dog or rabbit?
Another fun idea is to make a matching set for the whole family or make each mouse to fit the personality of each family member.'
By the end of this project you'll have:
- Become familiar with using printed pattern pieces
- Practised your zigzag stitch
- Had a go at some hand sewing
Finished size: 3¾ x 3¼in (9.5 x 8cm)
