About the project
For a little bit of variety this “Toy Week,” best-selling authors and renowned felters, Roz Dace and Judy Balchin, have contributed their easy-to-make Polly Bunny project! Even if you have never tried needle felting before, you will be able to make your own sweet Polly in no time! It is recommended that adults should handle the needles and make Polly, but older children love to play with her – she'd make for a thoughtful stocking filler this Christmas.
This project was originally published in Roz and Judy's book Needle Felting for Beginners (2020). This book is perfect for beginners: Roz and Judy take you on a journey, building up your skills from basic needle felting to confidently using armatures. They share their secrets with you and teach you how to capture expression and character in faces, as well as how to create realistic figures or more exaggerated caricatures.

Advice from Roz & Judy
- Using a polystyrene base is a delightfully easy, inexpensive needle felting technique that creates wonderful shapes. The wool stays securely in place when it is pushed into the surface with a felting needle. Ears, arms, legs and tails can then be attached to create fun animals and characters.
- If you needle too aggressively into polystyrene it will disintegrate. So, needle felt evenly and do not repeatedly stab in one area.
About Roz & Judy
Roz Dace & Judy Balchin have had long, successful careers in the craft industry. Roz worked in both television and publishing – she even worked as an Editor for some of Debbie's books. Judy is a designer, who has written numerous books and magazine articles on practical crafts, and she has worked as a lettering artist, illustrator and craft demonstrator.
The two sisters have combined their talents and formed a partnership – the Woolly Felters (www.woollyfelters.com). With their love of felting, especially needle felting, they run workshops and give talks sharing their passion and knowledge with others. Both authors live in Kent, UK.

You will need:
Equipment
- Foam pad
- Felting needles: 40 triangle, 40 twisted
- Five-needle tool
- Heart cookie cutter, 1¼in (3cm) wide
- Pale pink felt-tip pen
- Strong clear glue
- Long sewing needle 2¾in (7cm)
- Embroidery scissors
- Barbecue stick
Materials
- The templates
- Coarse wool: ⅓oz (10g) turquoise carded with a small amount of white, plus small amounts of white and pink
- Merino wool: small amounts of pink, black and red for features
- 3in (8cm) tall oval polystyrene egg
- White whiskers
