Set an autumnal table with Debbie Shore's pumpkin table runner and placemat set pattern.
Sew a festive autumn table with our pumpkin table runner and placemat set sewing pattern, perfect for adding charm to your fall décor collection or Thanksgiving dinner. I’ve made four placemats, so you’ll need extra fabric if you wish to make more. Reds, oranges and browns work well at this time of year and a black border just makes the colours pop!
I’ve used 2½in (6.5cm) wide fabric strips for the patchwork pumpkins, cut from seven different fabrics, but this is an opportunity to use up leftovers in your stash, if you have any, so you can select a greater variety fabrics or even make use of fabrics from Jelly Rolls in suitable colours.
Table runner finished size: 27 x 54in (68.5 x 137cm)
Placemats finished size: 12 x 8in (30 x 20cm) not including stalks
Note: Use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance unless otherwise stated.

You will need:
Equipment
- Fabric shears
- Rotary cutter and cutting mat
- Quilting ruler
- Erasable fabric marker pen
- Hand-sewing needle
- Optional: basting spray; darning foot for FME
Materials
- One 2½in (6.5cm) strip at least 16in (40cm) long from seven different fabrics, for each pumpkin –
if you are making all eight pumpkins the same, you will need 32 x 10in (80 x 26cm) of each fabric - 44 x 24in (112 x 61cm) of border fabric
- 44 x 17in (112 x 43cm) of plain fabric for the centre
- 44 x 70in (112 x 178cm) of wadding/batting for the table runner: I’ve used 80/20
- 26 x 26in (66x 66cm) of heat-reflective wadding/batting for the placemats
- 29 x 56in (73.5 x 142.25cm) of backing fabric for the table runner
- 39 x 22in (99 x 56cm) of backing fabric for the pumpkins
- 16 x 18in (40.5 x 46cm) of green fabric for the leaves
- 8 x 12in (20 x 30cm) of brown fabric for the stalks
- Handful of toy filler
