Follow this sew-along video tutorial by Debbie Shore to make a frilled/ruffled drawstring pouch! It's great for storing small cosmetic or skincare items, or you can use it as a gift bag.
What can I use my pouch for?
This small and pretty pouch is perfect for stashing away your “bits and bobs,” whether it's to keep some of your sewing notions tucked away or makeup and skincare items. You could make several of these pouches, as they make for lovely and more personal gift bags – why not even embroider the recipient's initials on the front?
What skill level is this sewing pattern?
This is a beginner-friendly “quick make,” and shouldn't take you more than half a day to stitch! It's so satisfying you'll be making these frill/ruffle pouches for everyone you know! Personalize them by using fabrics and ribbons in different colourways too.
What do I make next?
There are now plenty of “quick makes” to choose from. Why not make the Mock Cathedral WIndow Placemat, Gingham Fabric Book Cover with Pocket, or the Warm Mug Hug? These all make excellent gifts too (and can be made at the last minute)!

You will need:
Equipment
- Sewing machine
- Ruler
- Heat erasable pen
- Iron and ironing mat
- Pins or clips
- Stitch unpicker
- Safety pin or bodkin
- Scissors
Materials
- Two 7 x 9in (17.5 x 23cm) outer and lining fabrics
- One 36 x 4in (91 x 10cm) contrast fabric for the frill
- One 7in (17.5cm) circle template
- A ¼in wide ribbon measuring 40in (101.5cm) in length
