Quick Make: Quaint Cottage Pincushion | With Video

This 'quick make' is an adorable, quaint cottage pincushion. Practice zigzag stitch, with the option of adding fussy cutting; simply sew-along with the video!

This cute, cottagecore pincushion is designed to keep your pins and clips safe! The gingham ribbon chimney doubles as a hanging loop, and you can attach your clips to the ribbon trim on the front of the roof. This 'quick make' is great for using up scrap pieces of fabric, and proves to be quite the practical small pincushion. Follow along with the video and you can easily make this in an afternoon. You can embellish this project as much as you like, or even make it out of patchwork if you wish. Why not try and make a whole row of pincushion houses?

Included techniques:

  1. Appliqué
  2. Hand sewing for beginners

If you feel inspired to, you could add some fussy cutting embellishments. This is a simple technique where you cut a specific area of your fabric or print to incorporate into your make. You can use this technique for patchworked items (this is especially fun to use for English Paper Piecing!). You could also, after sewing on your fussy-cut piece, free-motion embroider around the design in co-ordinating or contrasting thread, to highlight outlines for a nice effect. This could present another opportunity to practice your zigzag stitching!

It's optional to use a rotary cutter , but this may be useful for cutting off some edges.
