Mini Stockings | Christmas Tree Decoration Sewing Pattern

These cute stockings make perfect reusable gift bags for smaller presents and can even be hung on the Christmas tree!

Birthdays, holidays, weddings and anniversaries... just think about how much you’d normally spend on wrapping paper and disposable bags. Then think about making your own packaging that can be re-used year after year! Handmade gift bags are part of the gift, and can either be kept by the recipient and used as storage, or passed on at the next gift-giving event. Try making a few stockings in co-ordinating fabrics, as they make great reusable Christmas decorations! I’ve designed a few different shapes and sizes, which can be re-sized if necessary. This project was originally published in my book Sew Eco-friendly, if you like making reusable items I'd recommend picking up a copy for further inspiration.

You will need:

Equipment

• Stocking template
• Safety pin or bodkin

Materials

For one stocking:

• 41 x 23cm (16 x 9in) outer fabric
• 41 x 23cm (16 x 9in) lining fabric
• 26.75 x 13cm (10½ x 5in) fabric for the cuff
• 26.75 x 10cm (10½ x 4in) fabric for the drawstring section
• 41cm (16in) of 1cm (½in) wide ribbon to draw
• 25.5cm (10in) of 1cm (½in) wide ribbon to hang
• Button or bell (optional)
