Felt Spring Floral Wreath | Debbie Shore Sewing Pattern
Easy |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Debbie Shore's pretty wreath pattern, decorated with felt flowers, is a perfect springtime decoration.
Spring flowers are a wonderful sight after the grey days of winter, and the ones on this felt wreath project can tide you over a wet British summer too! The flowers will also make an attractive display when placed in vases and, of course, you can make up more flowers to create a whole bouquet! Felt can be bought in packs of 9in (23cm) squares, so a pack of spring colours would be perfect, but if you already have scraps of felt you can make the flowers in different colours to mine. I used a wool-mix felt as it’s not too stiff and is soft to work with.
I chose flowers in a joyful colour combination. The first flowers I ever grew were lupins: when I was about 6 years old my dad gave me some seeds to grow in an old Belfast sink in the garden. These just had to be on my wreath! Daffodils always say spring to me – these bright and cheerful splashes of sunshine put a smile on my face, so they had to feature too! The calla lily is such an elegant flower, and the ones on my wreath are balanced by the gorgeous white peonies, which would make a beautiful display if you made up more and covered a whole wreath with them. Finally, pretty violas make good ‘fillers’ for any gaps in your wreath that you want to fill – simply glue them into the spaces.
I used a twig wreath base but, if you prefer, you could use a wire one and cover it in fabric as we did with the Christmas 2023 wreath , in which case you may prefer to glue some of the flowers straight on to the wreath without using florists’ wire stems. Don’t worry about cutting the pattern pieces out exactly – it’s quite nice, and looks more natural, when the flowers are slightly different shapes.
