The Great British Sewing Bee: Confetti Quilted Bag

Bust your fabric stash and build your skills with this beginner confetti quilted bag from The Great British Sewing Bee: Back to Basics book.

Looking for a creative way to use up leftover fabric? This beginner-friendly confetti quilted bag from The Great British Sewing Bee: Back to Basics is the ideal sewing project for transforming your fabric scraps into something practical and eye-catching. Whether you're a new sewist or want to experiment with quilting techniques, this colourful bag is a brilliant way to repurpose fabric in style.

Tips For Using Fabric Scraps

  • Avoid selvedges – trim them off to prevent bulk and difficult seams.
  • Think about colour combinations – go tonal, complementary, or high-contrast for different effects.
  • Arrange your scraps visually before securing, as they will show through the organza layer.

Fabric Suggestions

The backing fabric should be non-stretchy and quite sturdy; you could use medium-weight cotton, cotton twill, light- to medium-weight denim. The fabric scraps will be sandwiched between this layer and the organza.

Finished Measurements

  • Width (cm) 35
  • Height (in.) 15
  • Length (cm) 40
