Debbie Shore's Christmas advent calendar project can be filled with all manner of goodies!
Choose the robin or the snowman to embellish your festive advent calendar project, or make one of each! The pockets are uneven sizes and can be placed wherever you like; this means that you could replace a couple of them with larger pockets, if you have bigger gifts to fill them with.
The tools and materials for the basic advent calendar are listed below! For the robin appliqué you will also need:
- 9 x 5in (23 x 12.75cm) of light brown felt
- 8 x 4in (20.5 x 10cm) of dark brown felt
- 3 x 4in (7.75 x 10cm) of red felt
- Scrap of black felt
- Optional: one button or bead, for the eye
- 7 x 9in (17.75 x 23cm) of white fabric
- 5 x 6in (12.75 x 15.25cm) of fabric, for the scarf
- 4 x 3in (10 x 7.75cm) of fabric, for the hat
- Three small buttons
- Scrap of orange felt, for the nose
- Scrap of red felt, for the heart
- Sewing machine
- Free motion embroidery/darning foot for your sewing machine
- Erasable marker pen
- Strong wet fabric glue
- Basting glue stick
- Repositionable spray fabric adhesive
- 20in (50.75cm) square piece of fabric for the pockets: I have used three coordinating prints
- 24 x 28in (62 x 71.25cm) of plain fabric
- 22 x 28in (56 x 71.25cm) of wadding/batting
- Felt numbers
- Scraps of green felt in various shades, for the holly leaves
- 18in (45.75cm) length of tape or ribbon, for the hanging tabs
- 110in (280cm) of ¾in (20mm) wide bias binding
- 24in (62cm) length of dowel, for the calendar to hang from
- 36in (91.5cm) length of cord, to hang
