Download and sew Debbie Shore's microwaveable hand and neck warmers – suitable for beginners.
This hand and neck warmer set is one of the simplest projects we’ve made, but probably one of the most useful! Cherry stones can retain both heat and cold, so pop them in the microwave for approx. 30 seconds, (times may vary with the power of your microwave), or warm them in an oven at a low temperature for a relaxing thermal pad – you could even place them on a radiator to keep warm. For a cold compress, place in a plastic bag then pop them in the freezer for about an hour.
Cherry stones can be washed at 30 degrees – see the suppliers’ instructions – and can be scented with your favourite essence. Use natural fabric for the covering, such as cotton or linen. Brushed cotton would be particularly cosy!
Note: use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance.
Finished sizes: 21 x 4½in (53.5 x 11.5cm) for the neck warmer and 5 x 6½in (13 x 16.5cm) for the hand warmers.

- 5 x 44in (13 x 112cm) of fabric for the neck warmer
- 5½ x 28in (14 x 71cm) of fabric for the two hand warmers
- 6½ x 13in (16.5 x 33cm) of fabric for the hand-warmer straps
- Approx. 2.2lb (1kg) of cherry stones
