Christmas Card Storage Holder | Easy Beginner Sewing Pattern
Easy |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Store your Christmas (or other holiday) cards in this stunning Flying Geese inspired holder!
Although it looks quite complicated, this is a simple-to-make sewing project that uses an easy ‘flying geese’ quilting method. The finished hanging can hold 25 cards – more if you double up – and it’s perfect for Christmas. However, you could also use it to hold photos, and it looks quite stunning on its own as a wall hanging.
I’ve used two of my cotton Christmas fabrics and fusible fleece (Vlieseline H640) but any kind of wadding/batting will be fine to use.
If you prefer to bag out the card holder so that you don’t need to bind it, go as far as step 11 but don‘t add the backing fabric. Sew around the border to quilt, then sew the backing fabric right sides together to the panel, leaving a turning gap in one side of about 4in (10cm). Snip across the corners and turn the right side out. Press, then sew all around the edge of the panel, closing the turning gap as you sew.
Finished size: 19½ x 36in (49.5 x 91.5cm)
Note: Use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance unless otherwise stated.
