Cuddly Unicorn Sewing Pattern | Toy Week Variation by Kaz Marr

Easy-to-make rainbow unicorn plushie with downloadable instructions and templates – exclusive to members this “Toy Week”!

This project and its templates were updated on 29/10/2025 at 09:46 (GMT)

This month’s main project on the Half Yard™ Sewing Club came in the form of the Little Donkey toy. For “Toy Week” I’m delighted that member Kaz Marr has contributed her own variation: a colourful and cuddly unicorn!

Kaz has used a pastel multi-coloured furry fabric for the unicorn’s body, some bright embroidered flowers for embellishment and a fun rainbow yarn for the mane and tail. Kaz’ version also uses large black and blue safety eyes, for a more animated look. Some lashes have also been embroidered uses black embroidery thread.

Note: the instructions below are from the Little Donkey project.

Difficulty level

This project has been ranked as easy. If you’re a beginner, this is an ideal gift to make for Christmas. Switch out the main body fabric if you so wish to a fleece fabric, or how about something with glitter?

By the end of this project, you’ll have:

  1. Made a cute plushie unicorn.
  2. Gained confidence sewing with a fur fabric.
  3. Practised sewing with perfect tension.

Before you start:

  • To make the unicorn, you’ll take a different approach at steps 5 and 6. Instead of sewing on the contrast eye patch, and felt for the eye details, you’ll insert your safety eyes.
  • At this stage you’d also hand embroider your eyelashes.
  • When you get to step 11, make sure to add your horn as well as the mane, to make this toy a “unicorn.”

Finished size: 16in (40.5cm) high

Note: use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance
