Dinosaur Plushie to Sew | Toy Week pattern by Pat Platts

Create a soft and roarsome Dino plushie this “Toy Week”! This toy is a beginner-friendly project variation made by Pat Platts.

Four years ago, Daphne the Toy Dragon was introduced to the Half Yard™ Sewing Club, and named by members! It’s been a joy to see members stitch their own variations since Daphne landed back in 2021. For “Toy Week” I wanted to show off this adorable pink dinosaur version by Pat Platts. Instead of making the wings included in the Daphne project, Pat created mini Prairie points as scales!

Note: the instructions below are from the original Daphne the Toy Dragon project. Make sure to add your Prairie point scales after step 7 to make this dino variation.

Finished size

24 x 14 x 7in (61 x 35.5 x 18cm)

Note: Use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance throughout.

Difficulty level

This project has been ranked as easy. If you’re a beginner, making this toy is an excellent opportunity to perfect your hand-sewing and practise with printed pattern pieces, so I’d recommend giving it a go!

Top tips

  1. When cutting out the toy pattern pieces, if they state ‘cut two’ then make sure they are mirror imaged.
  2. Pat has made the eyes and nose in black felt, but you can use safety eyes and noses if you prefer.
  3. Add your Prairie point scales after step 7 for this dino variation!
