Embroidered Chicken Oven Mitts | Kitchen Sewing Pattern
Easy |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Master free motion embroidery with Debbie Shore's beginner-friendly oven mitts sewing pattern.
Suitable for beginner stitchers, this set of oven mitts would be a wonderful way to decorate a country-style kitchen. I’ve used craft cotton fabric for the main material and interfaced it thermal/insulated wadding, as this is heat resistant and helps keep the heat away from my hands. For the embellishment I have added an appliqué chicken, with free motion embroidery around the edges.
I have reversed the chicken appliqué on one of the mitts so the pair mirror-image each other. Experiment with the angles of the heads and try drawing the legs walking or running to create your own little characters! The materials below make two mitts. I've also created a matching Kitchen Chicken tea cosy and the video shows you how to make a matching cafetiere cosy!
Use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance throughout.
