This handy bag will attach to the handles of a wheelchair or push chair.

Add the longer strap and you have a useful tote, hobby or baby bag. The strap can either be detachable or permanently sewn into the bag ends. Beginners may wish to leave off the piping to simplify the steps. The base of the bag ties to the bottom bars of the wheelchair or push chair with ribbon ties, but if you don’t need them simply leave them out in step 21.

Finished size: 14½ x 13½ x 3½in (36.75 x 34.25 x 9cm)

Note: Use a ½in (1.25cm) seam allowance unless stated otherwise.

• Sewing machine
• Iron

Materials

• 40 x 32in (101.75 x 81.25cm) piece of outer fabric A: I have used red floral fabric
• 30 x 18in (76.25 x 45.75cm) piece of outer fabric B: mine is blue floral fabric
• 45 x 32in (114.5 x 81.25cm) piece of lining: I have used red solid
• 34 x 17in (86.5 x 43.25cm) piece of single-sided fusible foam stabilizer
• 40 x 18in (101.75 x 45.75cm) piece of single-sided fusible fleece – you may need to join a couple of pieces; batting tape is excellent for this
• 40in (101.75cm) length of 1in (2.5cm) wide bias binding
• 62in (1.6m) length of hook and loop fastening
• 16in (41cm) zip
• 12in (30cm) zip
• 12in (30cm) length of ½in (1.25cm) wide elastic
• 1yd (1m) length of ½in (1.25cm) wide ribbon
• Optional: 40in (101.7cm) length of ¹/₈in (2mm) wide shop-bought piping; fabric glue; erasable fabric marker
