Christmas Outfit | Robyn Rag Dolly Toy Pattern

Part of Debbie Shore's Maddie series, let's make a Christmas outfit for her friend Robyn.

It's nearly time to get ready for the festive holidays, and Robyn the rag doll wants to dress to impress! Robyn is very dapper in his smart trousers and Christmas waistcoat with colourful popper fastenings! If you don’t want to use poppers, don’t worry – you can use buttons or hook-and-loop tape if you prefer or you can even omit the fasteners altogether for a more casual look. His trousers have elasticated hems and fashionable pleated side pockets – perfect for storing festive treats to snack on later…

This is a very versatile outfit, and it isn’t just for the holiday season! Change the fabrics to suit whatever occasion Robyn’s getting ready for. Why not make the waistcoat and trouser fabrics the same to give Robyn a matching suit?

I have created two separate videos for Robyn’s outfit – the first is for the waistcoat (which you can watch below):

... And the second for the trousers (see below).

Note: Use ¼in (5mm) seam allowances throughout unless stated otherwise.

You will need:

Equipment

  • Sewing machine
  • Fabric shears
  • Snap fastener tool
  • Knitting needle or chopstick, for turning through
  • Safety pin or bodkin, for pulling through the elastic

Materials

  • For the waistcoat -
    • 20 x 9in (50 x 23cm) of outer fabric – I used a seasonal cotton fabric
    • 20 x 9in (50 x 23cm) of lining fabric
    • Two press snap fasteners – if you don't have the tool, sew-in snap fasteners will do just as nicely!
  • For the trousers -
    • 24 x 18in (60 x 46cm) of fabric – I used light- to medium-weight denim, but you could use a dark brown or black plain fabric, or even checked or plaid fabric!
    • 26in (66cm) length of ½in (1.25cm) wide elastic
