Dog Walking Utility Bag | Debbie Shore Sewing Pattern

Sew your own dog-walking bag or a perfect small bag for carrying essentials on the go.

This indispensable utility bag pattern can be worn as a shoulder bag or you can use the belt loops on the back to wear it around the waist. If walking the dog, you have plenty of pockets for toys, a water bottle, treats and poo bags, with a handy clip for clickers or keys that can then slip inside a pocket to conceal them. There is a secure zipped pocket in the flap for your phone or loose change, and plenty of room inside with another zipped pocket and two patch pockets.

If you want to use the bag for work or travel, there is plenty of space for documents or, if you’re heading to a workshop, this is a perfect bag to carry your crafty essentials!

I’ve used a lightweight canvas for the outer fabric, but denim, cotton or faux leather would work just as well. You will also need an interfacing of firm fleece or fusible fleece such as Vlieseline H640. I wouldn’t use a foam or anything too stiff as I think it may prove to be a bit too bulky in the seams. I do recommend using a denim or jeans needle to cope with the bulky areas.

The bag has one mesh side pocket and one fabric one, but if you prefer, you could make two mesh pockets, or two from fabric. You will need to adjust the fabric requirements to accommodate this. You can also simply leave off the side pockets if you wish.

So you can create your bag perfectly, we've made sure to include each stage in detail. Because there will be more steps than usual, I encourage you to read through the instructions carefully before you cut up and sew with your fabrics.

Finished size 8 x 8 x 4in (20 x 20 x 10cm)
