Welcome to part 4 of Debbie Shore's 12-part quilt-along, this beginner-friendly quilt block is perfect for quilters just starting out or those looking to improve their skills. The stemmed heart design is simple yet eye-catching, making it a great addition to your quilt as it takes shape over the months. Debbie Shore’s easy-to-follow instructions guide you through the process, allowing you to create this beautiful central block with confidence. We'll be incorporating a few new patchwork techniques, and ones you’ll already be quite familiar with – half square triangles and flying geese.

You will need:
Equipment
- Sewing machine
- Rotary cutter and self-healing mat
- Quilting ruler
Materials
- Fabrics (see my Introduction to the 2020 Block of the Month). From these, cut:
- One 3½in (9cm) square in PAT 1 and PAT 3
- Two 3in (7.75cm) squares in both PAT 1 and PAT 3
- Four 2¾ x 2in (7 x 5cm) rectangles in PL 1 fabric
- Two 1 x 5½in (2.5 x 14cm) strips in PL 1 fabric, for the stem
- Two 3½in (9cm) squares in BG fabric
- Eight 1¼ (3.25cm) squares in BG fabric
- Four 2¾ x 3in (7 x 7.75cm) rectangles in BG fabric
- Eight 1¼in (3.25cm) squares in BG fabric
- Four 2¾ x 1½in (7 x 4cm) rectangles in BG fabric
