Debbie Shore's no-template festive quilt block will help you master Flying Geese and more!
Yes, that's right! This month you won’t need any templates to make your quilt block; all the pieces for these Christmas presents are cut out by hand. To make up the bows on top of the presents, you’ll be using a combination of Flying Geese, Half Square Triangles (HSTs) and Split Quarter Square Triangles – all quilting and patchwork techniques that you’ve encountered before in previous Block of the Month quilt projects. Please see the Tips & Techniques boxes, right, if you need a reminder.
Untrimmed block size: 18½in (47cm) wide x 12½in (31.75cm) deep

You will need:

Erasable fabric pen and quilting ruler
Sewing machine
Rotary cutter and cutting mat
Materials
Fabrics (see my Introduction to the 2022 Block of the Month). From these, you will need to cut:
- Present 1 (left-hand side)
- Two 2¾ x 10½in (7 x 26.75cm) rectangles in 1st Green
- One 2 x 10½in (5 x 26.75cm) strip in 2nd Metallic
- Two 2½in (6.5cm) squares in 2nd Metallic
- One 4½ x 2½in (11.5 x 6.5cm) rectangle in Background Fabric (BG)
- Two 1½ x 2½in (4 x 6.5cm) rectangles in BG
- Present 2 (middle)
- Two 3 x 5½in (7.75 x 14cm) rectangles in 3rd Green
- Two 3 x 1½in (7.75 x 4cm) rectangles in 3rd Green
- One 1½ x 7½in (4 x 19cm) rectangle in 2nd Red
- Two 1½ x 3in (4 x 7.75cm) rectangles in 2nd Red
- Two 1½in (4cm) squares in 2nd Red
- One 3in (7.75cm) square in 2nd Red
- One 1½ x 1in (4 x 2.5cm) rectangle in 2nd Red
- One 3in (7.75cm) square in BG
- Two 1½ x 2in (4 x 5cm) rectangles in BG
- One 1½in (4cm) square in BG
- Three 1½ x 1in (4 x 2.5cm) rectangles in BG
- One 6½ x 3½in (16.5 x 9cm) rectangle in BG
- Present 3 (right-hand side)
- Two 2½ x 10½in (6.5 x 26.75cm) strips in 2nd Green
- One 2½ x 10½in (6.5 x 26.75cm) strip in Gold
- Four 1½in (4cm) squares in 2nd Green
- One 2½in (6.5cm) square in 2nd Green
- One 2in (5cm) square in 2nd Green
- Five 2½ x 1½in (6.5 x 4cm) rectangles in BG
