Country Farm Block of the Month #11 | Quilt Sew-Along (2023)
Easy |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Debbie Shore's quilt block may look intricate, but it’s both quick and easy to sew.
It's time to make the latest quilt block: Country Farm. This is actually a nine-patch block, meaning that it comprises three rows of three squares each. Four of the squares are a variation of quarter square triangle units, these are known as split quarter square triangle units.
What are split quarter square triangle units? Split Quarter Square Triangle (SQST) units are a variation of the Quarter Square Triangle (QST); it gets its name because one of the triangles is split in half and made from two fabrics. This creates a more complex and visually dynamic quilt block.
By positioning these units around the centre checkerboard square so that the points of the split triangles face outwards, the checkerboard pattern of the central square is expanded to form a larger square on point.
Untrimmed block size: 12½in (31.75cm) square
