On the Lookout Block of the Month #12 | Quilt-Along (2024)
Moderate |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Saving one of the best until last, the final block of the 2024 quilt is the archetypal lighthouse, with its distinctive red and white banding.
The striking red and white stripes on many a British lighthouse are designed to make the structure easier to see, whether against a light or a dark background, but it also makes it a lot of fun to depict and it’s a stand-out feature on this quilt. Another raw-edge machine-appliquéd block, it’s quick to create using the templates provided.
Prepare your shapes for raw-edge machine appliqué using the fusible web sheets as you did for Block 2, Riding the Prairie Point Waves. Refer back to steps 1 and 2 for that block if you need a reminder on how to prepare your pieces for raw-edge machine appliqué. See the cutting list below for which pieces to cut from which fabric.
Note: I zigzagged my pieces in place with a medium zigzag stitch and the same neutral-coloured thread that I used for the beach huts, but if you are not confident that your stitching will look tidy enough, you can use a matching thread so that the stitches don’t show up so much.
Unfinished block size: 8½ x 19in (21.5 x 48.25cm)
