Brick and Bows Cushion Cover Pattern | Canadian Smocking
Moderate |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Create a smocked cushion in a brick pattern or with beautiful bows using this Canadian smocking design – or try a combination of both!
This cushion uses a technique called Canadian smocking, which requires some simple hand stitching worked over a grid of squares to create a deeply textured and glamorous effect. The cover is fully lined, which not only hides any raw edges on the inside but adds a little weight, giving it a luxurious feel and making it impressive if you’re selling or gifting it.
A fabric that creases well works best for the outer fabric to emphasize the design, so I’ve used a lightweight canvas for this project. I’ve added small pearl beads to the centre of the bows to add to the glamour!
If you love the look of this cushion, you may wish to give the Waves Bolster Cushion a go too. It uses the same technique but the stitches on the bolster create a wave pattern rather than bricks or bows.
Note: the smocked fabric will reduce by approximately half in each direction.
Finished size: fits a 16in (40.5cm) square cushion pad.
