Debbie Shore's half apron sewing pattern is quick and easy to follow for beginner stitchers.
This is the perfect apron project for the al fresco chef, hobbyist or even sellers at craft fairs, with the zipped pocket for security and plenty of pockets to keep your hands free! Depending on the fabrics you use for this handy half apron, you could make this for the man in your life or keep it for yourself! Make it in a butcher’s stripe or plain colour for a neutral, classic look or go bold and vibrant if that suits the recipient’s style. I’ve used cotton gingham as my backing fabric and a lightweight strawberry canvas for the pockets, but this could be made from any cotton, canvas or denim you like!
Note: use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance.
Finished size: excluding ties: 21½ x 15½in (54.5 x 39.5cm).

You will need:
Equipment
- Sewing machine with a standard foot and optional zipper foot
- Scissors
- Pins
- Optional: basting spray
Materials
- 60 x 30in (152.5 x 76cm) of backing fabric: mine is green gingham
- 30 x 16in (76 x 40.5cm) of pocket fabric: mine is strawberry canvas
- 12in (30.5cm) zip
- 30in (76cm) of ¾in (2cm) bias binding – if making your own, this doesn’t need to be cut on the bias
Cut:
- Two 22 x 16in (56 x 40.5cm) rectangles of backing fabric
- Two 10 x 7½in (25.5 x 19cm) main zip pocket pieces
- Two 10 x 2½in (25.5 x 6.5cm) zip pocket pieces to go above the zip
- Two 7 x 10in (18 x 25.5cm) large side pocket pieces
- Two 7 x 6in (18 x 15cm) small side pocket pieces
- Two 7 x 6in (18 x 15cm) small side pocket backing-fabric pieces
- One 22 x 10in (56 x 25.5cm) pocket backing-fabric piece
- Two 30 x 4in (76 x 10cm) backing-fabric pieces for the ties
