Patchwork Star Cushion Cover Sewing Pattern With Video
Moderate |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Show off your patchworking skills with this celestial cushion cover that’s surprisingly straightforward to make.
The block used for this project is the 'Large Pieced Block' taken from A Year of Quilting, which I wrote with Melissa Nayler. This book has a patchwork block for every week of the year, which together can be combined into a quilt or used individually. There are plenty of ideas in the book for using the blocks to create various items for the home, but I thought it would be nice to show how different a block can look in another colourway and to give an example of how you don’t need to make a whole quilt to introduce beautiful patchwork projects to your home!
There are a number of useful techniques you’ll learn – or revisit – when making this quilt, including Split Half Square Triangles, Half Square Triangles and Four-patch Checkerboard units. Plus, you can use the technique of adding a border to any block, giving it a nice frame as well as making it large enough to be used a pillow or cushion front.

- 33 x 24in (84 x 61cm) piece of fabric for the cushion back: I used more of the blue mistletoe fabric
