Pip the Rabbit | Kids' Toy Sewing Pattern With Outfit
Moderate |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Part of the PJ mouse series, let's make Pip – a toy rabbit who is wearing her nightclothes.
Pip is a sweet little rabbit, who is best friends with PJ, and, like her friend, she’s wearing her nightclothes and ready for bed. I’ve made Pip from chambray cotton, but she would be extra snuggly if made from a soft fleece. Pip is dressed in her pretty nightdress and mop hat. Her ears pop through two buttonholes, but if you’re not too confident sewing buttonholes, then these can be left off. Her outfit would look quite sweet with a lace trim around the hem, sleeves and hat, or you could make the outfit in matching fabric to PJ’s pyjamas!
Finished height: 16in (40.5cm)
Note: use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance and switch to a small stitch of about 2.2 on your sewing machine when sewing Pip’s body.

- Sewing machine, preferably with a ¼in (5mm) sewing foot
- Doll needle
- Large-eyed embroidery needle
- Needle for hand sewing
- Erasable fabric marker pen
- Blusher for Pip’s cheeks
- Optional: wet fabric glue – I used Gutermann HT2
- Optional: basting spray
Materials
Materials for Pip
- 21 x 18in (53.5 x 46cm) of fabric for the body – you should be able to squeeze the pieces onto a fat quarter if you have a plain fabric
- 8 x 7in (20 x 18cm) of fabric for the outer ear – mine is light blue
- 8 x 7in (20 x 18cm) of contrast fabric for the inner ear – I used the same patterned fabric as for Pip’s nightdress
- 1in (2.5cm) white pom-pom for the tail
- Pink and black embroidery thread
- Approx. 3½oz (100g) of toy filler
Materials for the nightclothes
- 44 x 12in (112 x 30cm) of fabric – I used the same fabric as for Pip’s inner ears
- 6 x 6in (15 x 15cm) of contrast fabric for the collar – mine is blue, like Pip’s outer ears
- 33in (84cm) of ¾in (2cm) wide bias binding – mine is blue to match the collar
- 8in (20cm) of 1/8in (2mm) wide ribbon for a bow at the neck – again, I chose blue like the collar
- 18in (46cm) of ¼in (5mm) wide elastic – choose a colour to coordinate with the nightdress fabric
- Two snap poppers – mine are blue
- 7in (18cm) and 4in (10cm) circle templates
