Buildable Winter Felt Wreath | Christmas Sewing Pattern

Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Download Debbie Shore’s wreath sewing pattern – a festive felt project for intermediate sewers.
Create a beautiful handmade winter wreath with Debbie Shore’s sewing pattern, perfect for adding a festive touch to your home! This delightful wreath is packed with charming Christmas motifs, including snowmen, gingerbread houses, bearded gonks, twinkling stars and more.
It’s all hand-sewn, which I find makes it a nice project to work on when relaxing in an evening. I’ve used wool-mix felt as it’s soft to work with, and a wire wreath that I’ve covered in felt strips. However, a twig or willow wreath would also look stunning!
The most cost-effective way of buying materials is to choose a pre-cut pack of roughly 12in (30.5cm) felt squares and a bundle of embroidery threads in different colours. I’ve listed all the colours I’ve used in the materials below, so when you choose your pack, you can look for a similar range. Of course, you can choose whatever colours you wish to use, and add as many trees, stars, houses, gnomes and snowmen as you like! And if you find it as fun to stitch as I did, you can make Christmas-tree decorations from the patterns, too.
Note: Use two strands of embroidery thread unless otherwise stated.

You will need:
Equipment
- Hand-embroidery/crewel needle(s)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Erasable marking pen – I used heat-erasable
- Tweezers
- Wet fabric glue
Materials
- 12 x 12in (30.5 x 30.5cm) of rust-coloured felt
- 12 x 8in (30.5 x 20cm) of light green felt
- 12 x 8in (30.5 x 20cm) of mid green felt
- 12 x 8in (30.5 x 20cm) of dark green felt
- 12 x 12in (30.5 x 30.5cm) of white felt
- 12 x 8in (30.5 x 20cm) of bright red felt
- 8 x 5in ( 20 x 13cm) of dark red felt
- 6 x 6in (15 x 15cm) of yellow felt
- Seven ¼in (5mm) buttons – one for each gnome, house and hanging heart
- Two 5in (13cm) lengths of 1/8in (2mm) wide ribbon to hang the hearts
- Embroidery thread in grey, red, green, yellow and black (or colours of your choice)
- Toy filler
- 10in (25.5cm) wire wreath
- Three strips of felt or fabric each approx.1½in (4cm) wide and 44in (112cm) long to cover the wire wreath – I’ve used red felt but cotton fabric would also work well as you’ll see very little of this
- 6in (15cm) of ribbon to make a hanging loop – the width and colour don’t matter much as it won’t be seen
