Hi, I have just purchase the new Sew Maddie book which gives the pattern at the back for Maddie. However although the face has been drawn and is for transferring on to the fabric, this may be a stupid question but how do you transfer the face onto the fabric please if you don?t have a light board? Thanks. Ali. Xx
Megan replied: 19 Feb 23 at 14:01
There are tips in the front of the book for this. I think another way is carbon paper. I have a smart sketcher so I used that (it's like a projector for art)

The Drawstring cube being demonstrated on the 25th February Debbie says cut outer and lining fabric 5x9 which seems smaller than the cube Debbie had shown us on Saturday. Just me confused again.x

Hi everyone, I am a total beginner at quilting and I need to ask what may be a stupid question please. I have finished the first 2 melon patches, cut backing and wadding. Do I echo quilt through all the layers please? I have read an reread the instructions but I am not sure. Any help gratefully received thank you
Laura replied: 19 Feb 23 at 20:35
Yes quilt with a method of you choice (echo quilting, free motion embroidery, stitch in the ditch etc) through all the layers. You can put a different colour cotton in your bobbin if your top and bottom layers are different. I think most of us made up a smaller mock block sandwich so that we could practice a little a get the tension right for the quilting. Hope this helps a little.

Hi Everyone, I seem to be a bit brain dead today. I wondered if someone could confirm when Debbie is giving you cutting details, is it the Height details that are always first. I am catching up with printing some of Debbie's Youtube videos. and am having trouble deciding which is the height details and which is the length details. Some of them are very similar sizes. Thank you and have a good weekend.

Hi when too stitching with the thicker thread do you also use it in the bobbin thank you
Laura replied: 18 Feb 23 at 21:10
Debbie?s Tips for top-stitching are here https://www.halfyardsewingclub.com/tips/top-stitching-tips Looks like she suggests normal thread in your bobbin when using special thread at the top.

Hi Doreen, Outer fabric face up, zip face down, lining fabric face down - all on the one side of the zip... Does that help? This is a pouch from you tube... this may also help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oS0UMEkOKI

I have just bought Debbie's Satchel book and can't seam to find any satchel type buckels that are NOT made of leather. Does anyone know where I can find some I think I have searched the whole internet. I am a bit dissapointed now as i really like the satchel buckel but will probably have to use another type of fastening as I am vegan I don't want to buy the leather one. I love the book, it is easy to understand and can't wait to get making the bags.

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me?.. I want to make a bigger version of the child?s backpack Debbie made on a tutorial. How do I adjust the size of fabric I cut to keep it in proportion? Is it as simple as adding the extra inches to each piece to correspond with the difference in overall finished size? Hope this makes sense and I?m not being really thick x

Ahh thank you both, love this group, so helpful :)x

I have completed Maddie Romper Outfit and it?s huge. Has anyone else encountered this with this pattern?
Moz replied: 16 Feb 23 at 06:35
Just a thought. Is ?your? Maddie from a template you printed from Half Yard club or from the printed template at the back of the Maddie book. I had an original Maddie and made her the rompers from the Maddie book. They were huge - had to trim about two inches off the legs . It was only when I made Maddie from the book template I realised the template I printed out on my printer must have been wrong size as my new Maddie was much larger and the rompers from the book fitted perfectly.

Hi, I?m making my first quilt and was just wondering if it?s better to use a plain cotton or patterned for the backing?
Laura replied: 13 Feb 23 at 09:29
A patterned fabric would be a little more forgiving for wonky stitches on the back if it is your first quilt and you intend to do free motion embroidery etc .
