Hello all, I need help please. I would like to make the weekender bag. I have printed off the templates but there is no 'test' square to see if the scale is correct. I am also confused about some of the templates. Bag base and bag feet I am assuming are part 1&2 and is joined at the narrow end as they fit, but the longer end says to 'join pattern here' but there is a difference in size?, I would say that the one with the feet position is slightly smaller than the bag base.. I cannot see if there is a picture of the pattern layout. I have used the 'build a bag' books and followed tutorials on you tube but I like the look of this bag and trying out the new skills. xxx

I recently bought the South American style Andina bundle of fabrics from Debbie's website as I fell in love with them. Only problem is, now I've got them I don't know what to make! Does anyone have any ideas what I could make, to best show off the way all 5 fabrics go so well together? What do you make when you want to use a lot of different fabrics in one project?

Thanks Laura, that's such a fab idea!

Hi everyone Watched the live stream this am (18/06/22) where Debbie made a little storage bag. Where can I find the measurements on this. I've read them somewhere but can't think where. Thank you in anticipation.

Hi Tina, the HYSC live streams are also saved on the blog with the materials that you will need. https://www.halfyardsewingclub.com/blog/live-stream-18th-june-2022-simple-storage-bag Thanks!

Alright I will finally ask for help. I am determined to do the BOM Quilt this year and the only part holding me up is the wreath. Somewhere, and I know it is me, the mistake is the same and I get the same results. The first time I make different fabric with the exact size. Second time I made everything 1/4" bigger and burn the living "oh-my's" out of my fingers. Healed and determined I put the 1/4" bigger around the 24 "boards - thinner cardboard" and turned the extra 1/4" fabric over the "cardboard". Each time my wreath doesn't come together. All of the other BOM's (thus far) seem to be straight forward. Is anyone understanding or able to help me with my mistakes. It looks so right but I cannot fit the wreath around. I have thought of "fiddling" with this with just the 24 cardboards???! Thanks for reading this - Eve

Hi Eve ... Have you checked out the English Paper Piecing explanation on the Tips section on this site. This explains the stages of cutting and wrapping material around the template as well as the sewing of the shapes together. I used photocopier paper and fabric glue rather than cardboard and it seemed to come together quite well. Hope this helps Laura

Good afternoon all.My husband has asked me to make a king size duvet cover with the Celtic dreams fabric. The dimensions are 220cmx230cm.Could anyone advise how much fabric I would need for the front please?Thankyou????

Laura replied: 19 Jun 22 at 20:42
I agree with Barb on this one ...you might need to add extra fabric for pattern matching as well so it could be quite wasteful on fabric. You can get wider fabrics for making quilt covers if you are keen to do this. Perhaps another way to go would be to put a Celtic Dreams Panel on a ready made plain quilt or go for curtains and cushions in the patterned fabric with a plain quilt. Hope this helps and that you are happy with the results whatever you decide.

Hi all. My craft iron soleplate has some sticky fabric stuck to it and is generally not very clean. I think this happened when I made a wonky house with the all the intricate shapes. Can you advise me how to clean the soleplate please?

Lin how interesting thank you. I?ll give that a go.

I would like to start EPP, doing some hand sewing and using up scraps. I saw someone on instagram using firm interfacing rather than card for the templates, which can then be left in. Anyone have any thoughts on this? In theory it sounds a good idea but wonder if there could be any issues. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.
Lin replied: 17 Jun 22 at 15:38
Thank you both for your answers. Jilly have had a look at the fusible quick screen, looks perfect. I?m going to give it a go. thank you so much. We just need to persuade Debbie to stock it in her shop now.

What type of interface would you use for a lightweight shower fabric and would you use a metal zip or a nylon zip for the front.
Debbie replied: 20 Jun 22 at 13:21
What are you making?

I only started sewing in January and have never made anything from a pattern. I foolishly bought and printed off the pattern for the batwing top but have no idea how each A4 page should be laid out on the Jersey? It can't be a series of A4 shapes with printing on? I feel very stupid. I can't see any guidance on Debbie's website or here. Any advice much appreciated!
Bev replied: 14 Jun 22 at 20:56
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I knew there must be a tutorial somewhere so now I have a double explanation.
