I can't glue the spool of thread to my sewing machine pincushion! I've tried fabric glue, glue gun and general glue and different kinds of spools. Nothing sticks. What do I do?
Lorraine replied: 10 Jun 22 at 00:32
I used a long, thicker stick, dowell from the hardware shop. I filled the spool cavity with glue, thus securing the stick to the spool rather than spool to the top of the pincushion.

Has anyone tried to make the skirt with the Lace bordered viscose? I ordered extra so I?d hopefully have enough to cut it on the bias but not sure it will work. One of my granddaughters wants the skirt and likes the idea of having lace on the bottom but would it turn out to be a wonky skirt. Which might be kinda cool! Thanks for any suggestions! Nancy (from Colorado). ????
Nancy replied: 31 May 22 at 16:08
Thank you Miss Debbie. I?ll be cutting it on the grain. I was kind of hoping you?d think it would make a good Wonky skirt. ???? I may just have to try to make a wonky shirt with some appropriate cotton fabric that will fall nicely. Tiny little wonky houses around the bottom maybe. I?ll have to experiment. Thank you so much for the great advise! Nancy J

I realise the blue badge has to be on show but you can buy holders to keep them in with clear vinyl pockets that you open like a folder and place where it can be seen the only ones I have found are leather or pu I just thought it would be nice to have a fabric possibly quilted one
Alice replied: 2 Jun 22 at 10:51
In Debbie's book "Half Yard Bags and Purses" there is a passport wallet that opens out with pockets on the inside. You'd have to alter the measurements to suit the size of your badge but I'm sure you could make it into a blue badge holder instead of passport holder. You can buy the clear vinyl to sew on, I don't know if Debbie sells it but if she doesn't I'm sure you'd find it in a sewing shop. Or you could reuse/recycle and cut up a clear shower curtain or polypocket from a ring binder.

I have just looked on her website and it does not seem to be available you could email her at enquiries@debbieshoresewing.com as sometimes they have small amounts but no longer on website.

Not sure where to put requests for future sewing projects I am wondering if Debbie could design a ?blue badge holder? using clear vinyl
Karen replied: 29 May 22 at 14:12
Why? I am a blue badge holder and keep it in my handbag when not in use in like a drawstring bag then pop it out to put on dash, you got to have it on show as how they send it to you is my understanding so traffic warden will see what it is otherwise if not show property you will get traffic fine !

Has anyone been able to order any of Debbie?s books via Searchpress , delivery to Canada? It won?t accept the 30% discount code either.
Julie replied: 10 Jun 22 at 19:24
Hi Anne, I did find them on Amazon but as I want to order a few of them I thought the 30% discount vis searchpress would save me quite a lot of money. Thanks

Dear friends. The grand children's (age 2, 3, 5 &7) beds have arrived. They are two singles stacked on top of each other. which is great because they are out of the way in the room where I sew. During the day. The uncovered quilts will be on top and I think it would be good to create a day bed/sofa with them especially as grandchildren only visit occasionally. Perhaps a fabric throw to keep it clean? What would you do?
Laura replied: 24 May 22 at 18:57
You can put wadding between fabric and do free machine embroidery quilting or machine line quilting and then bind the edges, but I would think that is quite a big piece of work. You would probably want to do some smaller pieces to practice first. Debbie has some coloured quilted fabric that you may want to look at...you would still need to bind the edges. In the meantime you could cover the beds with a double/king size flat sheet or duvet cover and make some pretty cushions so that you see a difference very soon. You may have tried it already but If you want to practice quilting and edging Debbie?s heart appliqu? sewing machine mat on You Tube is a great starting point. Hope this helps.

Does anybody have the same problem as me? I seem to create a lot of static and would normally avoid synthetics. Is there any fabric that I should avoid, or any that I should particularly use, I would like to take advantage of all the modern fabrics the colours are so lovely. Thank you.
Debbie replied: 25 May 22 at 06:09
I've only had this issue with polyester and poly mixes, so I'd suggest viscose, cotton, linen, rayon or any natural fibres to prevent static...

Hi, I?m watching the shirting video and try a test piece but going wrong somewhere . I?ve lengthened my stitch and put tension on8. When I sew it gathers and so stitch to end of row and I do a couple of back stitches at the end to hold the elastic and cut thread/ elastic but then when I stretch the piece of fabric the elastic pulls out of the stitches, help pkease!
Debbie replied: 25 May 22 at 06:10
Try tying the ends of the elastic to the thread, you'll need to pull the thread through to the wrong side first...
