Make Debbie Shore's versatile wrap pouch project that's ideal for storing your haberdashery in style. There are lots of pockets to keep your sewing notions and haberdashery organised in this handy drawstring pouch with a pocketed wrap, or it’s perfect to keep cosmetics and brushes tidy and organised. I've made the cutting instructions for the drawstring pouch and wrap separate so, if you like, you can make an additional pouch – after all, you can never have too many bags!

I haven't attached the drawstring pouch to the wrap, to keep it loose and removable. If you wish to secure it to the wrap, glue the pouch in place; alternatively, attach one half of a small length of hook-and-loop tape to the bottom of the pouch after step 11, then the other half to the right side of the lining, centrally, after step 21.

Finished size: 9 x 8 x 7in (23 x 20 x 18cm)

Note: use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance throughout.

You will need:

Equipment

• Sewing machine and quilting foot
• Fabric shears, or rotary cutter and cutting mat
• Erasable fabric marker pen
• Safety pin or bodkin, for threading the ribbon
• Optional: zipper foot; tacking/basting spray; fabric glue

Materials

Gather:

• 44 x 15in (112 x 38cm) of outer fabric: I’ve used cotton fabric featuring sewing motifs 
• 44 x 24in (112 x 61cm) of lining fabric: I’ve used plain orange cotton
• 10in (25.5cm) zip
• 22 x 20in (56 x 51cm) of fusible fleece: I used Vlieseline H630
• 60in (152.5cm) of ½in (1.25cm) wide ribbon
• 70in (178cm) of 1in (2.5cm) wide bias binding

Cut:

• For the drawstring pouch –
  • Two outer pieces each measuring 9½ x 6in (24 x 15cm)
  • Two lining pieces each measuring 9½ x 3½in (24 x 9cm)
  • Two lining pieces each measuring 9 x 1½in (23 x 4cm) for the drawstring channel
  • Two lining pieces each measuring 9½ x 10in (24 x 25.5cm) for the bag lining
• For the wrap –
  • One outer and one lining piece each measuring 22 x 9in (56 x 23cm) 
  • Two pieces of lining each measuring 9 x 9in (23 x 23cm) for the outer patch pockets
  • One outer and one lining piece each measuring 9½ x 6in (24 x 15cm) for the pen pocket
  • One outer and one lining piece each measuring 5 x 5in (13 x 13cm) for the pen-pocket flap
  • One outer and one lining piece each measuring 9 x 4½in (23 x 11.5cm) for the zip pocket
  • One outer and one lining piece each measuring 9 x 1½in (23 x 4cm) for the top of the zip pocket
