Debbie Shore's handy towel tote pattern can also be used for a yoga mat.
Suitable for intermediate level stitchers, Debbie Shore's towel tote sewing pattern is one you're going to want to download in time for summer. The rolled-up towel is held securely in the base with two ribbon ties, and there are plenty of pockets to hold suntan lotions and sandy flip-flops. There are even two zip (zipper) pockets, one on the inside and the other on the outside, for securing important items.
A non-directional fabric, such as stripes or a geometric pattern, works best for the outer fabric as it’s a wrap-around style of tote, or it might be fun to use a coordinating towel as the main fabric!
Finished size when closed: 15½ x 15in (39.5 x 38cm)
Note: Use a ¼in (5mm) seam allowance.

You will need:
Equipment
- Sewing machine and zipper foot
- Fabric shears
- Iron
- Small scissors
- Fabric glue stick
- Erasable marker pen and ruler
- Safety pin or bodkin
- Optional: basting spray
Materials
- 44 x 19in (112 x 48cm) of outer fabric: I used a multicoloured striped cotton
- 44 x 22in (112 x 56cm) of contrast fabric: mine is a blue and white fabric with a nautical theme
- 15 x 29in (38 x 73.5cm) of lining fabric: I used a plain pink cotton fabric
- Two pocket lining pieces each measuring 9 x 7in (23 x 18cm): I used a custard yellow fabric, but you can use the same fabric as for the main lining if you have enough
- 29 x 15in (73.5 x 38cm) of fusible fleece: I used Vlieseline H640
- 17 x 6in (43 x 15cm) of mesh fabric
- 19½in (50cm) of ¼in (5mm) wide elastic
- 189in (4.8m) of ¾in (2cm) wide bias binding
- Magnetic snap
- 8in (20cm) zip
- 16in (40.5cm) zip
