This may be a stupid question but here goes, I am a bit behind on the BotM quilt (up to date on the blocks but behind on joining them together)...so in joining row 2 (April's instructions) it llists "one 2?in x 44?in (6.25 x 113cm) strip of backing fabric, or back sashing fabric ? to achieve this length, join shorter strips as above" but the only joining of shorter strips (above) I can find relate to batting but I'm guessing I am missing the "above" instructions as I was thinking of joining on a 45 degree angle just wasn't sure where on the strip would be best to make the join (as my back sashing fabric measures about 42" in width so a join so close to the end wouldn't work I am guessing. Sorry for the ramble but I just can't see the "as above" for looking, please help! Thanks in advance!

Hello - we have the following advice for this "If you need to join strips to create the longer back sashing, cut two strips of fabric long enough for the required length, plus 1/4 inch seam allowance. With right sides together, join the two strips along the short sides and press the seam allowance open." We will update the instructions!

Hi everyone, I am trying to make the dog door stop. I have had a trial run with some poly cotton. But it was too flimsy. If I use crafting cotton or fat quarters would I be better to interfacing it first ? I also used a more open weave fabric for the gusset. But that just kept fraying and stretching. Thank goodness we can learn from our mistakes. Well try to learn !! Xx

Hi Laura, many thanks for your reply. I have cut out another dog door stop in thicker craft cotton I am hoping it ok. If not I will try your idea. Have a good day. And enjoy this beautiful weather xx

I think this May have been asked before but not too sure. I want to save some of the projects, especially the returning ones and/or the ones that are being taken down. Rather than print them out, how do I save them? Thanks !

Thanks Barb but it?s how to download and where it will be on my phone that is the problem. Also, never seen the QR code which ironically I find easier to comprehend.

Please could someone help, I'm finally getting around to making the summer skirt with pockets, posted May 2022 and I was wondering do you cut the pockets on the bias or do you cut them on the grain? Thanks

Look what I have just made with my new Juki machine Has anybody who has a Juki machine had trouble with the top tension looping? I have checked everything and every so often it does it again. Sometimes it does rights itself during the same length if sewing.
Jules replied: 20 Jun 23 at 11:40
No worries Blodwen. I googled a couple of forums this morning and found a number of people who have had the same problem with other machines that have the automatic thread cutters so it seems to be an issue at times? Hope you can get round it. Good luck.

Hi I am looking for a permanent fabric pen to write a label for the back of a sew in label on a quilt. My permanent ink Sharpie pen bleeds on to my sample piece . Can anyone recommend anything for this purpose please. Many thanks.
Laura replied: 13 Jun 23 at 10:16
I use the alphabet function on my ( basic) sewing machine to make my sew in labels when feasible. Not sure if this is something you have considered if you have that function and if the size of the label allows.

Hi Halfyard members please can you help. When hand finishing binding at the back of a quilt do you use thread to match the binding or thread the same colour as the quilt? Thank you in anticipation.
Tina J replied: 12 Jun 23 at 14:50
Yes I enjoy it very much, I have a wide range of things I like to sew and don?t just stick to one thing but it helps me learn lots of skills. I have learnt so many more by joining the club! How about yourself? X

Morning all and Happy Saturday ???? Does anyone know if Batik fabric is quite strong? I was hoping to make some of Debbie's light-weight fold-away tote bags that close up into a little pouch with poppers from one the books and I thought Batik would be good as the bag isn't lined but not sure if will be a strong enough fabric?
Bev replied: 22 Jun 23 at 12:47
I have all (well, a lot!) of Debbie's books. Which one is this in please? I was just thinking that I need some more
