Is there anything that I can use in place of Bosal In R Foam? It is so expensive.
Megan replied: 16 Mar 23 at 07:22
Although firm fleece isn't a foam so it won't feel the same it is quite good for structure though

Why do you think my blocks are smaller than the said finished measurements. Are we supposed to add a seam allowance. Thanks in advance.
Laura replied: 16 Mar 23 at 09:26
Take a look at some videos on the SCANT 1/4? seam allowance. The sewing line and thread can affect the seam allowance so some quilters will use a slightly reduced seam allowance to balance that out. If you do a practice block and use the 1/4? seam allowance and then move your needle (stitch width) position by one to reduce the seam allowance slightly this may improve the sizing of the overall block. I have started to make a practice block of scrap materials now as I have realised that I am still at the beginning of the quilting journey and shouldn?t expect to produce the blocks of this quilt without practice. It takes a bit longer but I have made my mistakes on cheaper fabric and my actual blocks are improving. Hope this helps.

Anyone has an idea what fabric type this is ? It looks like a woven fabric but it is very hard to topstitch a very neat straight line due to the thicker weaving. (I think the needle slips into one of the holes of the woven part and it results in wobbly stitches. It is not a knitted fabric becouse theres absolutely no stretch in it at all. Anyone has tips on how to get a neater stitch on this type of fabric ?

Possibly a type of hessian or loose woven canvas. You could try a tear away stabiliser on the top of the fabric before you sew?try on a sample piece first to make sure that the stabiliser can be removed successfully. You could also try a decorative/zig zag topstitch and see whether this works better than a straight stitch on the loose weave (I don?t think the straight stitch looks over wobbly on your picture) Hope this helps.

Which elastic do I use? I'm making a jumpsuit for my Granddaughter, but I'm a little confused. The notions given are for 1/4" elastic & 3/4" elastic. However, the instructions don't indicate which is for shoulder ruffle, waist or bottom of leg! I've attached a photo of the pattern, in the hope that someone on this lovely group might offer advice or thoughts. Thanks - Helen.
Helen replied: 13 Mar 23 at 15:10
Hi Laura , thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the requirements on size elastic is at bottom of back envelope under all the options. Have read accompanying instructions for dresses as well as jumpsuit, but no indication! Will have to try & work it out via casing measurements as I get to them.

Hye everyone, how can i ?perfect? the stitching around the zippers and top stitching ? I made up one of the tote bags with a zipped pocket inside the lining. However im not statisfied with how my ?decorative/visible stitches? are looking :( When you look closely the stitches seem not straight but slightly skewed to one another. Also i have issues making 100% straight lines. Any tips are welcome (Sorry for my not-perfect english btw) Thank you All ! Kind regards Gert

Thank you Laura ! I am indeed someone who is really critical on everything that i do (i want it to be perfect and if i see mistakes that i cannot fix i get frustrated :( ) I will try your tips of lengthening the stitches and also practice on the handle straps ! Good tip there :) thank you !

I'm a little confused with the flying geese pieces on the BOTM. I've stitched along the diagonal line but am now unsure what it means by 'excess seam allowance' - am I meant to be cutting off the whole triangular piece (shown by red highlighter in photo)? I've watched Debbie's mini video about flying geese but it's made in a slightly different way. Hope someone can help me. Thank you. Karen x

Yes ..measure 1/4? away from the diagonal stitch line so that you have a seam allowance and then cut off excess. Make sure you are happy that the front of the block looks correct against the finished piece before you cut. Hope this helps
