Hi everyone. I've just printed out the pattern for the bow-tie from last month and wonder if I'm missing something? The 1" test square is the correct size but the pattern pieces don't come up large enough (part 1 measures 19.1cm but it says it should be 25.5cm) Has anyone else made this and know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance Ax

Oh... i have learnt something new today... i dont like EPP. Not happy with my wreath but in december if i have enough fabric left over i will be doing it again. I used my sewing machine, it just wasnt not working for me.
Jane replied: 11 Mar 22 at 16:10
Yours looks great. I was also nervous about the EPP as never done anything like it before. And never done any quilting either. Looked forward to making this. I got a bit confused with it at first but I persevered and I just took my time and managed to do it. Quite pleased with how it?s turned out.

Hello / Good Morning, When I started to quilt almost six years ago, I had an issue of my quilts growing before the end. Careful with sizes and I have stumped my the people that quilt, why my quilts grow. One person said we would do one entire quilt together. Sizes-check, cutting-check, and through the quilt, step by step, she watched and double checked everything. My quilt grew on that one as well. No extra sashing, borders, blocks, however, quilt grew. I know this sounds strange but after six years I am beginning to wonder. Any ideas pls? Thank you for your time. Oh yes, my February turkey 2022 is double in body size. It's a hoot and aggreivating too.

Do you use plastic quilting rulers like the Olfa tool or a tape measure. I once trusted a tape measure I had with a set of knitting needles from China and my finished jumper was way out as the measuring grid lines were completely different to our imperial measurements. Just a thought (smiley face). I wish emojis worked on this site)

On step 2 of the Star wreath instructions... should this say place 8 diamonds across each strip of green fabric not 6?

Hello. Can anyone help me towards the best fabric to cover a ottoman. I want to smock it also. Thank you for your help
Laura replied: 28 Feb 22 at 10:21
Hi...do you mean you want to smock or do you mean quilt. I would think a cotton or canvas would be good depending on how much wear the ottoman is going to get. They would be lovely quilted but not sure if canvas is suitable for smocking as it may be a bit thick to get the right effect.

You can go into Your Account heading on this site and right at the bottom of the page it asks you to indicate if you want to receive HYSC newsletters and emails - if you agree to this you will get the emails in the future. Enjoy making the bag -- it is so lovely x

Hi guys, hope you can give me a help along with my huge sewing learning curve! I am trying to keep up with the blocks of the month and have recently purchased Vlieseline Fuse-n-tear 322 White from Debbie for the back of the "JOY" block. My problem is that when I went to tear the backing off it all just appeared to tear off but not leave any of the glue behind. I don't think I am attaching the wrong side as it sticks okay but perhaps I am using it wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Amanda in Doune, Scotland.

Thank you both, I knew I must have been doing something wrong! Back online for some bondaweb then! Thanks a million, much appreciated, Acc.

Hi, what is the best stitch length and width when quilting a project especially when sewing around the outline of a template traced onto freezer paper which is ironed onto the quilt? I'm concerned that the stitches will be pulled out when peeling away the freezer paper. Thanks. Jennifer

Thanks Laura. I'll have a look. Jennifer

I have just started BOTM Turkey Trot. Bit late this month I know. But has any one done the same as me. The instructions say ? As our main motif ? the turkey ? is made using appliqu?, remember you'll need to attach adhesive sheets to the backs of the pieces before sewing everything together. For help with this, see the instructions for the adhesive sheets in the introduction to the 2022 Block of the Month?. So I did. All the pieces. Am I right in thinking that I should have left it off the feathers?
Kay replied: 22 Feb 22 at 18:50
I did the same as you Elaine, just be careful when you push out the points on the feathers and just press the bit that folds over the other side mind you dont stick the full feather shape to your ironing mat.
