Hi I've finished all the blocks for BOTM 2019 and joined them together. ?Have I missed instructions for making the border? Thanks Gina

Ah thanks for this. I've done this part and I have all twelve blocks joined, quilted and sashing in place, It was the final slightly wider border and binding that I was wondering about. I'm sure I can work out what I need to do, I'm just a bit new to sewing/quilt making, so welcome 'idiot proof' instructions! Gina

Hi Debbie and HYC members, I have recently started quilting and really enjoying it. My problem is how to make a larger quilt when my sewing machine has quite a small throat. Is there a simple way to manage making a large quilt??

One thing I will say is that I don't roll the quilt up inside of the throat when I'm doing a larger quilt. I'm not sure how small your machine is. I find rolling it up doesn't actually help me with managing the quilt, so I just scrunch all of it up and smoosh it inside the throat. Having a sewing machine that sits down inside of a large table is helpful, too. What I mean is to have the throat plate of the machine level with the table surface. If this is not possible, I would get a large table and pile up books and things to make the surface as even as possible. I've seen people use large pieces of wood or foam as well. A large flat surface is extremely helpful, because that quilt is going to want to fall off working surface and hang and it will pull away from you, making it terribly difficult to quilt. It will also wear on your arms and hands and cause lots of quilting mistakes. Your neck and back will thank you for working with a large flat surface. Quilting gloves are also helpful. Some people don't like them, but I think they are a Godsend. By the time you try all of this, you might think that you should have just bought a new machine with a bigger throat, haha! I hope this helps, though.

Debbie replied: 18 Nov 19 at 09:50
I'd go for a specific foot if your manufacturer makes one, and Singer do! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Singer-Walking-Quilting-Low-Shank-Machines/dp/B00G6TZRUM/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=singer+walking+foot&qid=1574070622&sr=8-5
